SD40-2 in YN2
A tired looking SD40-2 passes by the depot in Hamlet NC. Is this a first generation SD40-2? Not sure, I ask because of the lack of extended front and rear pilots.

Patrick Harris General This is an SD40, the predecessor to the SD40-2. The SD40-2 shared the same frame/chassis as the SD45, hence the porches. You can tell an SD40 from this side by the fact that the battery-box door does not extend under the cab. The SD40-2 battery box door extends below the cab, and on the opposite side has a sight glass immediately in front of the radiators in the rear. 2/9/2010 3:01:33 PM
